Soil: Moist, well drained, but is very urban and drought tolerant once established
Shape: Oval to vase shape with upright arching branches
Growth Rate: Medium
Flower: White, pleasant fragrance
Fruit: Flat brown pod 6-12" long by 3-6" wide
Exposure: Full sun
Additional Notes:
Stark and rugged in the winter, this picturesque native of the midwest becomes tropical in appearance in the summer. Huge fans of doubly compound green leaves emerge to cast filtered shade. However, avoid planting in heavy clay soils.
