Outstanding Features:
Small, upright tree bears an abundance of showy
white flowers in early spring prior to leafing out followed by edible
purplish black fruit and excellent bright red-orange fall color. The
new foliage is often silvery or reddish turning green as it matures. Has
attractive smooth gray bark on the trunk and larger branches. The edible,
blue-black fruit ripens in mid summer and is readily eaten by birds as it
matures.
Uses:
Well-adapted for planting along residential streets
where there is plenty of soil space beneath power lines.
Fall Features:
Excellent Bright red-orange fall color.
Requirements and Culture:
Adaptable.
Full sun to part shade. Does well in
average garden soil, though evenly moist soil is preferable.
